Only after 6 weeks after the Jungfrau Marathon I was satisfied with my performance.

Another great year end with typical weather. While it was unpleasnt but dry at the start, ice rain set in after 1/3 of the race. After 2/3 of the race the ground was so icey that it was no longer possible to bring full force to the ground. I 88. out of 212 finishers in my age category and 228. out of 645 male finishers
11.2008 3:43:46 41.195km Marathon Nice - Cannes
With limited training and even less sleep I am quite pleased with the result. At least the downward trend could be reversed. With 1:50:44 for the first half I even ran a negative split. Certainly helped by the inspiring course along the deep blue sea. I finished 2,489. out of 8,207 overall male finishers  and 1,085 in my age category. Pictures

4.2008 1:38:41.74 40km World Inline Cup Zugersee
Very early in the season there were only the aficionados there. With fewer people it was more challenging to get a good group for wind-slipping. I was significantly slower than last year but still had a good time. I finished 46. out of 71 in my age category and 132. out of 150
3.2008 1:07:27,3 15km Kerzerslauf
Another beautiful spring day in Kerzers. I am satisfied with my time even though I got another minute slower. Still I finished 209. out of 619 male finishers in my age category (40-44 years). Even in the category M20 (20-34 years) I would have finished 260. out of 591 finishers. Overall I finished 1,074. out of 4,848 finishers.

Ideal conditions weather-wise on a clear day with temperatures around 15 Centigrade (however, some winds). My time was slow but the experience great. I finished 271. out of 532 finishers in my age category and 1,262. out of 2,709 male finishers. With my personal best I would have finished 198. overall but these are past times (at least for now).

Another great running experience on a crystal clear day with temperatures at the upper end of pleasant. 05.2007 1:12:42 10 miles (16.09k) Grand Prix Bern
This years Grand Prix was again a great event from the atmosphere point of view. Due to another week with 5 hour/night sleeps and stomach problems my personal performance was behind previous years. I still made it to 383 out of 1,789 in my age category and 1,807 out of 9,826 male finishers.
04.2007 1:32:16 21.097k Freiburg i.Br. Half-Marathon (Germany)
The sleep-deficit didn't get any better but I am pleased that my running times remain pleasing. I finished 136. out of 1,192 male finishers in my age category and 609. out of 5,441 overall male finishers. The Half-Marathon is known for the fact that there is a band every kilometer.
03.2007 1:05:27.7 15k Kerzerslauf

I have had enough training but not enough sleep. Nevertheless, the race went quite well. I finished 136. out of 665 male finishers in my age category (now M40!) and 388. out of 1,802 male finishers overall.
12.2006 30:12.4 7.5k Gippinger Stauseelauf
The weather conditions were ideal with more than 12 centigrade and sunshine at the end of December. However, I was recovering from an upset stomach and hadn't eaten properly for a couple of days. With my performance I am therefore very satisfied even though I would think that I should be able to run below 30 minutes. I finished 45. out of 150 finishers in my age category (the last time I started as M30!) and 194. out of 891 male finishers.

Fukuchiyama Marathon, near Kyoto/Japan
Web-Information in English

While the time is one of the slowest ever, I am still pretty satisfied. I felt well during the whole marathon and the preparation was not great as I hadn't slept well the three preceeding nights due to traveling/jet lag. The marathon had more than 10,000 participants but was in a very rural area where nobody knew any English whatsoever, which made it an interesting cultural experience.

Behobia - San Sebastian (Spain)
I had tried to run not too fast on this hilly course (a total of 200m climb) in view of the upcoming marathon but the last 5k I couldn't help it in view of the great crowds. A very interesting race (with ETA protesters), a lot of ambitioned runners and good organization. I finished 1,463 in my age category and 2,636. overall. There were 11,633 finishers. For once I didn't do the full distance of 14.85k but started in the "Jogger long-distance" category in order to have a speed training for the upcoming marathon. I finished 17. out of a total of 126 male finishers in this category. With an average of 4:08 per km I am quite satisfied, even more so considering that I hadn't eaten will for more than 36 hours in an effort to lose weight for the marathon.

I couldn't train properly for weeks and still am out of shape. Nevertheless, I am quite satisfied with my performance, even though I only finished 43. out of 50 male finishers (8 competitors gave up). The field of competitors was pretty strong. Gigathlon heroes suchs as Beni Hug (6.) and Bennie Lindberg (9.) did not reach top ranks. There was quite heavy wind/rainfall during the Moutainbiking leg and the ground was pretty soft, which partially explains (apart from the low form) why I was 32 minutes slower than in the previous year.

Rome Marathon
By far the slowest time ever despite the splendid conditions (well - 15 centigrade warmer than I was used to) in a very well oragnized race. I may not have been in great shape but I made things worse by chasing the 3:15 pace maker balloon which I had lost at the start for the first 10k. Soon after finally catching up I had to let go and the remaining kilometers turned to be very, very long. Neverthless, I finished 2,744. out of 8,428 male finishers and overall enjoyed the experience.

09.2005 1:29:20.0 21.097k Greifenseelauf
Currently I am in good shape but in the advent of Greifenseelauf I felt pretty low of energy. I am all the more pleased to have run one of my best Half Marathons ever. Quite amazing in view of the fact that my fast times are 5 years and 7 kilos back. I finished 170. out of 1,265 finsihers in my age category and 666. out of 6,240 male finishers. The course was much slower than Budapest Half-Marathon. However, temperatures were with 10 Centigrade much more favorable.

After a week of heavy training for Greifenseelauf and 2 days of intense sight seeing I was not in for a fast time. However, it turned out that I could benefit from the good weather, the fast course and the good organization. I finished 490. out of 4,100 male finishers.
08.2005 40:34,6 10k Murianer Herbstlauf
It was hard to return to this hilly course where I had run my fastest ever 10k time (38:41). Well, this was 7 years and about the same amount of kilograms earlier. At least I could be satisfied with my time which brought me to 18. out of 40 in my age group and 70. out of 215 male finishers.

Two day Multisportevent across Switzerland which can be done as Single, Couple or Team of Five. I particpated in a Couple (Team of Two) where I took the Inline, MTB and Running legs on both days. A friend of mine took the Swimming and Cycling legs.
Despite a limited opportunity to train we finished. On Saturday I was competing for more than 10 hours and on Sunday another 8 hours. The MTB and Running courses were partially pretty rough. On Saturday, for instance, I had to carry the bike down a gravel field for the first 600m change of altitude. Pictures

The slightly hilly course (110m change of altitude) is beautifully located. Temperatures were ideal but there was a little bit wind. I finished 141. out of 456 in my age category and 789. among 3,865 men. The race went well. I wasn't really suffering despite the high pulse indicated (I cannot believe pulse was that high). I am satisfied with my race even though the time does not compare very favorably with my 1998 time, but hey I was six years and a couple of kilograms younger then.

Laufsporttag Winterthur
The course was very hilly (e.g. the start was at 450m above sea level, after 5K one was at 550m). The ground was extremely soft (where it was not covered by snow and ice). For various reasons I arrived at the start area only 15 minutes before the start. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with my performance. I had a good start and I could capitalize on my uphill strength. I didn't have to let pass too many runners once it got to downhill. At the finish line I didn't feel overly exhausted. I ended up 60. out of 148 in my age category and 196. out 554 men overall.
12.2003 30:05.2 7.5K Gippinger Stauseelauf
After three months of serious long distance training (60K per week) this was a speed-test on a short distance. I am satisfied with the result. I finished 219. out of 907 male finishers (71. in my age group of 197). Competiton was high, as only the serious runners make it out to the snow flurries of New Year's Eve. While this time compares favorably with last year's 31.20,4. I must admit that my personal best on this course is 27:01 (albeit at that time the course was about 200m shorter, hence one can add about 48 seconds).

Very hot race which led several hundered people to drop out of the race and brought several dozens to medical care. The effect on me was that my time was very bad. Until the 5th kilometer everything went well (speed, pulse) and then suddenly the pulse skyrocketed.

Midsummernight Triathlon (Switzerland)
After the problems I had in May this Triathlon went very well for me. As I had spent only 7 hours on the inline skates prepairing for the race, a slow time came as no surprise. In the MTB leg I had an average speed of 25K per hour on the hilly course which is good for me. In the running leg I was 39th of 86th single finishers despite the fact that I lost two minutes as I had left my race number belt in the changing zone. Overall my ranking was 66. of 86 single finishers which may not sound great but is probably a result of the strong competition. Overall I was 245. out of 325 finishers (of which most were teams).
5.2003 1:15:36 10 miles Grind Prix Bern (Switzerland)
Beautiful course in the old town of Bern (UNESCO world cultural heritage). Due to lack of training and severe cold I was 8:35 slower than the last time I ran this course. I still ended up 655. out 1,666 in my age category (3,451 of 11,946 overall).  I spent the whole following day in bed recovering from the cold.
12.2002 31:20,4 7.5K Gippinger Stauseelauf (Switzerland)
After the Hallwilerseelauf training unfortunately got even worse. However, I am satisfied with the time which brought me to 354. place among 970 men (117. out of 211 in my age category).
10.2002 1:33:48,5 21.097K Hallwilerseelauf (Switzerland)
The weather conditions were ideal. In view of the fact that I hadn't trained a lot in the advent I am reasonably satisfied with my time. I ended up as 415. among 1,473
male finishers (139. in my age category among 510 finishers).
9.2002 1:34:32,4 21.097K Greifenseelauf, Uster (Switzerland)
The time of this Halfmarathon is quite disappointing. I should be able to run sub 1:30 on such a course. The conditions were ideal but right from the beginning I didn't feel strong. I was paying tribute to the fact that I had slept an average of 5-6 hours in the two weeks leading to the race (work!) and the Jungfrau Marathon (two weeks earlier) and the heavy Uri Rotstock hike (one week earlier).
I finished 855. out of 4,449 male finishers which after all isn't too bad.
9.2002 4:34:07 42.2K (1,820m) Jungfrau Marathon (Switzerland)
The goal of the season! The world's most beautiful marathon (and one of the hardest with 5,971 feet uphill on the last 10 miles). The race went very well. I didn't have any problems. The only way I could have run faster is to train more and take off a couple of pounds.
I finished 655. out of 2,216 male finishers on Sunday.
Pictures.
7.2002 1:40:30 14K (1,400m) Swiss Alpine Marathon
Participated in the team relay (MTB, Inlineskate, uphill runner, pass runner, downhill runner) of this 78K race (total +/- 2,400m change of altitude). Was badly suffering from a severe cold and only finished as 74. out of 126. However, my team still came in as 28. overall.
6.2002 2:20:29 21.097K (750m) Glacier Run, Bettmeralp (Switzerland)
The time of 2:20:29 sounds very slow, but one has to be aware that the start is on 1,950m (6,440ft) and the finish was on 2,700m (8,900ft) and the air was very thin. Furthermore we ran on rocky single trails. I finished 157th out of 589 and was satisfied with my performance.
6.2002 31:53 8.5K Midsummernight Triathlon (Switzerland)
Took the running leg of a Swiss Style Triathlon (10K inline skating, 25K MTB, 8.5K running). The event was really cool. It took place during the evening/early night and the changing zone was by Lake Zug where there was a tent with funky bands and bonfires.  Temperatures and humidity were very high, so I was very content with my time.
Our team came in 66th out of 207 all men teams in a total time of 3:21:05,6. Among the runners I was 56th.
2.2002 42:15.4 10.5K Bremgarter Reusslauf (Switzerland)
First race after a long break. The slow time can also be explained with the heavy headwinds. Still, I made it to 104th out of 253 in my age category. Even though the offical length is 10K some people found out that the course in fact measures 10.5K.
8.2001 59:08 14K City to Surf Fun Run, Sydney
56,625 runners. I finished 910th, i.e. among the best 1.6%.

Ideal conditions on typical Sydney winter day, i.e. blue sky, 20 degrees Centigrade (69 degrees Fahrenheit)

5.2001 53:18 13.1K The Great Train Race (near Melbourne)

I finished the 4K run in 15:16 as first in my wave and was subsequently passed by dozens in the pool. However, I didn't expect it differently, as this was only my third swim in 15 years or more.
3.2001 39:22 10K Manly 10K, Sydney
7AM, 77% humidity, 25 degrees Centigrade. My first race for almost a year went pretty well and convinced me that I should sign up for the Canberra Marathon.
